CONFERENCE OBJECTIVE

Networking of Libraries, Resources, Technologies and Users in the Knowledge Society

Libraries are undergoing tremendous changes worldwide in the recent past due to various factors such as globalization of education, ICT revolution, information explosion, escalation of cost, etc. The expectations of the present day users from the library and LIS professionals are changing enormously. Knowledge resources are being made available in many formats, media and standards. LIS professionals need to acquire many skills to know about various knowledge resources and also to acquire, organize, store, retrieve, and disseminate the resources using various modern IT tools and techniques. It is impossible for any library to acquire all the published documents, technologies and expertise due to various constraints to provide access to the users. Networking of libraries, institutions and resources are paramount important in the knowledge era to share not only the resources but also expertise, experience and best practices among institutions and professionals.


The objective of the National Conference is to provide a platform to the professionals to explore, discuss, debate and share ideas and knowledge in the following areas of the conference themes among professionals
To network the Libraries for resource sharing
To empower the users in the knowledge society
To sensitize the Librarians to deliver the user-oriented services in the knowledge society
To connect the right users to the right resources
To know more about the knowledge resources, technologies, tools and techniques for sharing the resources
To discuss, debate and exchange the knowledge and ideas towards redefining the Library and Library services in the knowledge society
A platform for the practicing Librarians to know about the users' expectations and requirements in the knowledge society

CALL FOR PAPERS THEMES & SUB THEMES

Papers are invited for presentation in the following sub-themes conformance with the main theme. Original case studies and reports on best practices will be appreciated. The given sub-themes are only indicative and not exhaustive.

INVITED PAPERS

Each session will focus on a specific emerging topic with special keynote address by subject experts from various reputed institutions across the country.


SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Working papers based on research work, case studies and implementation of new
and novel ideas, methods and services are invited. The papers will be reviewed by the
editorial committee.


Selected papers will be included in the conference proceedings and also published in
SALIS journals. The decision of the editorial committee regarding the acceptance of
the paper for presentation will be final. The editorial committee has right to accept or
reject a paper based on the recommendation of the editorial committee.

Authors are requested to submit two hard copies of full papers and a soft copy on CD as per the specifications: format: MS-WORD, font: Times New Roman, size: 12, space: 1.5 Line, paper size: A4, column: single, reference style: APA style, keyword: 2-5 words, abstract: 100 - 200 words, full paper length: 3 to 8 pages in camera-ready form along with the Registration Fee. Charts, graphs, photographs if absolutely essential only any be inserted at the proper place in the paper. Maximum of three authors only can contribute a paper. An author can send maximum two papers only. Papers will be accepted only if it is prepared as per the conference specifications and with registration fee.

A declaration by the author(s) should be given separately stating that the paper has not been presented / published elsewhere. Papers accepted for presentation will be intimated to the first author by e-mail. The decision of the editorial committee regarding the acceptance of the paper for presentation will be final.

BEST PAPER AWARD

N.P.K. Memorial Best Paper Award for LIS Professionals and Shri Rajunaidu
Memorial Best Paper Award for LIS students will be given by SALIS for the best paper
presented in the conference.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE


The conference programme consists of pre-conference tutorial, inaugural session,
technical sessions, invited lectures, contributed papers, product presentation cum
exhibitions from reputed vendors and knowledge dissemination institutions which will
create more awareness among the participants on the conference themes.

ACCOMMODATION

The delegates can contact the Organizing  Secretary for accommodation. Accommodation will be arranged against advance payment in nearby hotels.

 


TRANSPORT


Transport will be arranged to pick up and drop the delegates from Kovilpatti Railway and New and Old Bus Stations 


ABOUT THE COLLEGE


National Engineering College was established in the year 1984 by a renowned philanthropist Kalvithanthai Thiru. K. Ramasamy, and is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University of Technology, Tirunelveli. The college is accredited by NBA, New Delhi. NEC offers six undergraduate and seven postgraduate courses in Engineering, Technology, Research and Doctoral programme in various departments. It has the state-of-the-art laboratories, a well-stocked Library and the best computing facilities besides well qualified and experienced faculty. Since its inception NEC has achieved national standing in terms of academic performance, co-curricular and extra curricular activities and also in its growth and commitment to social service. The standard of excellence of our teaching is reflected in the success of our students in industry both in India and abroad.

CENTRAL LIBRARY

Central Library is the Learning Resource Centre which acts as the knowledge hub for the academic activities of our institution with a mission to provide knowledge gateway to the user community with the state of the art technologies. A fully air-conditioned modern Library building is housed in an area of around 29585.68 sq.ft. An e - Library is equipped with the 2 mbps broad band Internet, 20 mbps leased Line connectivity and 2 mbps wireless (RF) connectivity for the users. All the library services have been automated on modern line. Library is enabled with wi-fi technology and security systems with Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV).


SALIS

SALIS is a registered professional body which actively involves in the development of all
spheres of LIS by organizing various programs including conferences, seminars,
lectures and workshops in emerging areas of LIS jointly with reputed institutions. It
has many chapters across the country to provide services in the respective regions.
SALIS publishes two journals to disseminate research work and exchange ideas and
knowledge among professionals. SALIS instituted many awards to encourage,
motivate and recognize professionals those who are doing good service to the
profession and the society. The main objective of SALIS is to 'Reach the Unreached'
and also to train the LIS professionals to handle the latest IT tools and techniques
more effectively and efficiently in order to provide quality services to the users.

KOVILPATTI


Kovilpatti Town is the headquarter of Kovilpatti Revenue Division and Kovilpatti Taluk. It is situated on the north-western side of the Thoothukudi District on the N.H.7 (B.C.C Road). It is located 90 Kms south of Madurai city and 60Kms north of Tirunelveli Town and 50 Kms north-west of Tuticorin. The Tirunelveli-Madurai Broadguage line passes through the town.
